I know I have been raving about Manila Standard articles recently, particularly by the editorial columnists Emil Jurado and Jojo Robles.

Today's post however, comes from a man named Tony Lopez, publisher-editor of BizNewsAsia weekly newsmagazine and six-time president of the Manila Overseas Press Club or MOPC, founding member of the Foreign Correspondents Association of the Philippines, and a long-time member of the National Press Club.

For the first time, a certifiable tycoon is running for president, Senator Manuel Bamba Villar Jr.

Villar’s listed property holding company, Vista Land and Life-scapes, is worth P17.25 billion. He owns about 70 percent of that, or P12 billion.

Financing his own presidential campaign, the senator is his own vested interest. He is not beholden to various business vested interests and lords of all kinds—political lords, warlords or drug lords.

Among the nine presidential candidates, Villar is the only one with the track record and experience to fulfill what he vows to do. “What my opponents have been promising, I have done it,” he says without a touch of hyperbole. “Who can run this country better?” he asks his rapturous audience.

As for Noynoy Aquino, well, he has Time magazine and the description by the prestigious The Economist—“nondescript senator.” Time itself, despite a brave effort to portray him as the savior of the Philippines , concedes Aquino’s is an “a undistinguished political career.”

Villar in the late 1990s built a billion-dollar enterprise with only P10,000 in start-up money. He has built more houses—250,000 units by his own count—than any other developer. He has planted more trees—one million, by his own count—than any other environmentalist and green do-gooder. And in the sense that housing stimulates no less than 18 other industries, he has triggered more economic stimulus than any other CEO, in government or in private business.

Villar is the only prospective Chief Executive since the War to have been both speaker of the House of Representatives and president of the Senate. As speaker, the House received its highest approval rating. As Senate president, the Upper Chamber got its highest approval rating. That’s leadership.

“I am offering to our people my experience as speaker of the House, my experience as Senate president,” Villar told a group of businessmen, Filipino and Chinese, in Greenhills recently.

“I also want to share with you what none of them [the other presidential candidates] can offer,” he deadpanned, “my business experience.” “I know exactly what we, businessmen, want. I am offering you the excitement of living in a country with a very vibrant economy.”

“I make no guarantees,” he cautioned, “but I can tell you, I know how to do it.” “I have done many things in my life that a lot of people know could not be done.” “Gentlemen, ladies, I can do it,” he thundered. The crowd responded with a loud applause.

After his brief speech, Villar fluttered table-to-table, glad-handing and pumping hands. He sat down at the table reserved by juice and airline tycoon Alfred Yao and engaged the businessmen in can-do talk. They included the PCCI’s top brass Mike Varela, Donald Dee, Jun Ortiz Luis, Ed Lacson and Jess Varela. They seem to like Villar earnestly. Then he took his dinner at the table reserved by the Zamora brothers, congressman Ronaldo and businessman Manuel and property magnate Toti Cariño.

“Villar has a broad experience in getting things done,” says Ronnie Zamora. “He has achieved very difficult things.” “Compare him to Noynoy [Aquino, the Liberal Party frontrunner] . When you see him work or not work, you see that he [Aquino] cannot hack it,” the veteran legislator sneers. Ronnie and Noynoy were together in Congress.

“He has the strong will to do what he says he will do,” adds businessman Donald Dee. Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, the nemesis of President Arroyo and First Gentleman Miguel Arroyo, believes that the Nacionalista Party standard-bearer will be a good president.

“Manny will be a very good president,” Cayetano asserts. “Unang-una may takot sa Diyos. He has a passion to get things done. By nature, ayaw niyang nagpapatalo, meaning if people tell him you cannot solve poverty or you cannot finish the land reform or you cannot irrigate this amount of, by nature hahanap ng paraan ‘yan.”

“I’ve seen him do that in the speakership fight—when they said don’t fight Erap because he is a sitting president. I’ve seen that when he appointed me blue ribbon chair despite the protests from Malacañang. And then, nag-aaral talaga siya.”

Cayetano says Villar’s fight to become president and deliver on his promises to the people “is all about legacy. He wants to leave his children a name that means excellence.”

“I don’t think he will be a corrupt president,” the neophyte senator notes. According to him, every person has either a passion, which is positive, or lust, which is negative. “Manny’s is not one of lust,” Cayetano says.

Alan adds: “He is in love with getting things done. He probably will be the only president in a long time that has more money than he will want to get when he becomes president . . . If Villar goes after money when he becomes president, he will only destroy his name, which he will never do.”

Andal Ampatuan Jr.’s endorsement of Liberal Party standard bearer Senator Benigno Aquino III can be seen in two ways: Either the family believes that Aquino, if he becomes president, will exonerate them from the charges related to the massacre of 57 in Maguindanao, or that the Ampatuans hate Noynoy so much that they know people will stop supporting him if he is endorsed by them.

Either way, I believe that Noynoy —and everybody else supporting him, including the Makati Business Club, the Black and White Movement, the Hyatt 10 and their propagandists and publicists passing themselves off as opinion writers—and the Ampatuans deserve each other.

When Aquino says that he will devote his first 100 days, if elected, forming a so-called “Truth Commission” to review all the scandals that hounded the Arroyo administration during its nine years in power, I remember his late mother who hated the Marcoses so much that she did nothing but go after them. As a result, the Cory administration accomplished nothing and in fact committed numerous sins of its own, like the Hacienda Luisita massacre, the Kamaganak Inc. and others.

It’s a hate campaign Noynoy is waging, obviously because he is surrounded by people who hate President Arroyo.

The poor boy Noynoy, in seeking the presidency under the shadow of famous parents, does not realize that what this country needs after the elections is unity and reconciliation.

The campaign has shown us how low politicians can go in slinging mud at their opponents. And unless the next president makes the effort to unify a severely fragmented nation, we can never move forward.

Why, Aquino not only vowed to review all contracts entered into by the Arroyo administration. He also vowed not to recognize an Arroyo-appointed chief justice. He said he would even seek the impeachment of this new head of the judiciary if he or she would be named by the incumbent President.

Clearly, the boy does not know that there are three branches of government —the Executive, the Legislative and the Judiciary—and that these branches are independent of each other.

And that whatever the Supreme Court rules on with finality is the law, right or wrong, and whether he likes it or not.

It’s bad enough to have a presidential candidate out to divide an already fragmented nation. Worse, he thinks like a dictator and until now has not yet given us reason not to doubt his mental stability.

If Noynoy thinks I’m biased against him, I am.

It’s now definite. Liberal Party standard bearer Senator Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III will never appear at the Manila Overseas Press Club’s presidential series as guest speaker.

After repeated invitations to attend the series where former President Joseph Estrada, Senator Richard Gordon, Senator Manuel Villar and administration candidate Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro had spoken, Aquino said he would “never appear at MOPC with (Emil) Jurado there— he’s biased.”

If Noynoy won’t speak before our group to present his platform of government to us, as well as to businessmen and professionals who comprise our members, that’s his problem.

Recall that Noynoy also accused MOPC Chairman Tony Lopez as biased during a forum before the business community. It seems the guy can’t take criticisms.

I can say that Noynoy is truly his mother’s (the late President Cory Aquino) son. He does not take after his father, the late Senator Ninoy, who thrived on criticism and saw it as an opportunity to refute charges against him.

I recall the time when Cory had breakfast with us columnists after nine, I repeat, nine coup attempts. I asked her why she was so sensitive to media criticisms to the extent of suing the late Louie Beltran and the late Max Soliven with that “hiding-under-the-bed” column of Louie. I pointed out to her that her husband welcomed criticism.

You know what Cory said? “Well, Ninoy is dead, and I’m President!”

Presidential candidate Noynoy told reporters that his rivals should spare his mother from criticism. Meaning, they should not bring up issues like the Hacienda Luisita massacres and allegations of corruption by the “Kamaganak Inc.”

But why should we forget them? They make up the dark pages of our history.

My gulay, did the publicists and propagandists of Noynoy spare the brother of Villar in their attempt to destroy Villar’s claims to poor beginnings?

If it’s a choice between Noynoy and Villar, I’d rather stick out my neck with the latter for many reasons. First and foremost, Villar doesn’t go around claiming to be incorruptible and honest. In contrast, Noynoy vows he will never steal when records show that at the age of 26, he had a security agency with his initials (run by his uncle-in-law, Len Oreta) and which cornered deals with government-sequestered agencies and companies.

The Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act bans relatives of people in public office from doing business directly or indirectly with government. Santa Banana, Noynoy even had the temerity to list the agency’s address as the official presidential residence on Arlegui!

This is the candidate that vows not to steal.

Yes I’m biased – biased against politicians who claim they are incorruptible but act otherwise.

I’m also biased against people who flip-flop on their positions if only to win “pogi points” with the masses. Look at what Noynoy did with regard to the reproductive health bill, and with the imposition of new taxes. Indeed this candidate is clueless about governance.

I’m biased against candidates who vow to review all the projects of the incumbent administration and devote their first 100 days in office running after scams and scandals. My gulay, that’s preaching the politics of vindictiveness and hate. Why, Aquino even vows not to recognize a chief justice appointed by President Arroyo!

And last, but not least, I’m biased against somebody who allegedly suffers from mental disorders. True or not, this charge is serious and must not be dismissed.

Yes, I admit I’m biased against Noynoy – unless he proves me wrong.

It may seem like a joke to Noynoy Aquino, but nobody finds it funny. Only someone with a really warped sense of humor, actually, would find levity in the endorsement of Andal Ampatuan Jr., the accused Butcher of Maguindanao.

On the other hand, Noynoy may find comfort in Ampatuan’s explanation that the decision to endorse his presidential bid was made by the entire family, according to the current poster boy of political warlordism. That’s what families do, after all; they stick together, hand down heirlooms like haciendas and political office to one another and sometimes even get accused of perpetrating (or at least tolerating) massacres together.

In fact, the closeness of the Ampatuan family is the main objection to the recent exoneration by the Department of Justice of two members of the clan in connection with the horrific killing of 57 journalists and other unarmed people in Maguindanao last November. And if the Ampatuans’ endorsement of Aquino was a family decision, pursuing this line of logic would mean that the massacre—which was a far more important political “statement” by the clan—must have required nothing less than the approval of all its members.

And endorse Noynoy was exactly what Ampatuan did: “We are supporting Noynoy because we believe he is the one who can expose the truth about what happened in the massacre,” Andal Jr. told reporters from his jail cell. “Noynoy would be our instrument to achieve justice.”

Will the next Noynoy campaign commercial now feature Andal Jr. flashing the “L” sign with one hand, garbed in yellow duds and baller while cradling Baby James with the other, flanked by a beaming Noynoy and Kris? Even the people who gave us Rapping Noynoy probably won’t be able to pull that off.

Naturally, Noynoy would have nothing to do with Ampatuan’s offer of support. “No, thank you,” he said, in response, while surmising that it was all a joke. “I am not running for their endorsement.”

But that was not the end of Noynoy’s day of unintended irony. While Andal Jr. was singing the praises of Noynoy and his family for defeating the Marcos dictatorship, as he described it, Aquino’s drum-beaters were pushing an endorsement of their candidate that they truly welcomed—that of the oppressed farmers of Sumilao, Bukidnon.

For those who may have forgotten, the indigenous farmers of the Higaonon tribe have been fighting private landowners and the government to get back their prime agricultural ancestral land spread over a flat upland area between Mount Sayawan and Mount Palaopao in Sumilao. Years back, they staged a long march from their hometown and a hunger strike at the offices of the Department of Agrarian Reform to dramatize their plight.

Without a tinge of irony, a press release from the Aquino camp said the Sumilao farmers, “known for their relentless pursuit for justice and advocacy for the reform and extension of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program... stand by Senator Aquino and will help carry him through his campaign against corruption and advocacy for reform.” “They trust that Senator Aquino, like his parents, will rise above personal and family interests and spearhead the completion of the agrarian reform program. They are confident that under Senator Aquino’s leadership, the government could effect land distribution, efficient delivery of support services,” the statement read.

It’s not known how Aquino could secure the endorsement of landless farmers in Bukidnon while failing to get the approval of his family’s equally long-suffering tenant-tillers over at Hacienda Luisita. Or why Noynoy’s camp would actually welcome the Sumilao farmers’ endorsement, when it would only highlight the continuing crisis in his inherited plantation.

If I were Noynoy, I’d wonder if the Sumilao statement was a joke, as well. But I’m not—and I certainly don’t find the ironic endorsement from Bukidnon funny, either.

Again, from the Noynoy camp, we hear this week of the unveiling of an Obama-like program of universal health care for all Filipinos by 2015 under a new Aquino administration. From someone who has never accomplished anything of national significance by himself heretofore, the Yellow candidate does promise a lot.

As far as we can tell, the only real commonality between Barack and Noynoy is a predisposition to light up cigarettes whenever they can. And we think Obama is way ahead of Aquino in their shared promise to kick the nicotine habit, as well.

But, since we already mentioned Luisita, it’s important to remember that Noynoy also famously promised that he would distribute the hacienda’s land to the farmers who have tilled it for generations in 2015. Only to be exposed as a liar by his own cousin Fernando Cojuangco who operates the agricultural estate in an interview by the New York Times.

Noynoy’s response to the NYT story that his cousin may have been “misquoted” only put him deeper in trouble after Carlos Conde, the Gray Lady’s Manila correspondent, threatened to make public the tape where Cojuangco blew his cousin’s promise to bits. In fact, before making his new universal health-care promise this week, Noynoy has conspicuously been avoiding making a promise to do anything big five years from now.

As is the case with most of Noynoy’s campaign promises, this one doesn’t go further than a press release simply because there is no way of judging if he can deliver, given the dearth of his past accomplishments. As far as health goes, in fact, Aquino has not even made it perfectly clear if he supports state programs to promote contraception or not.

Up to now, Noynoy has not even presented a detailed energy program, even as daily power outages and soaring electricity costs have returned with a vengeance. All we get from the supposed frontrunner, this late in the campaign, are motherhood statements, unthought-out programs and declarations of being unblemished (walang bahid).

Promises, promises, promises. These from the man who is supposed to be the antithesis of the traditional politician.

If Noynoy wins and his health-care program fails to materialize, who is to call him to account for lying? At least his cousins in Luisita have gone on the record to say that what this big-talking candidate promises isn’t always what’s going to come to pass.

Speaking of Luisita, the Web site Bulatlat.com has produced a short video that explodes the myth of Noynoy’s claim of being “walang bahid.” It’s an eye-opener—but only for those who haven’t been permanently blinded by the Yellow light.

GMA's REAL Candidate

Recently, the Yellow Camp has been doing an all out demolition job on Manny Villar. Since they saw that their mudslinging has been effective especially with regards to the recent surveys, all they do now is spread and snowball the issues.

One of the major issues that are thrown at Villar is the 'Villaroyo' accusation. Noynoy and the whole Liberal Camp insists that Villar is the administration candidate and would therefore be Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's ally.

We all know that Noynoy's only campaign strategy is to bash and criticize the Arroyo administration, release false issues to his fellow candidates, and get popularity/emotional votes.

But in fact, it is Noynoy who seems to be linked closer to the Arroyo administration... READ THIS:

MANILA, Philippines--If Senator Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III is the real opposition then he should explain why he has relatives working with President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

This was how Senator Manny Villar countered the allegations by Aquino’s camp that he was an administration bet as shown by Arroyo allies endorsing his presidential bid.

Unlike Aquino, Villar said he has no relatives working for the Arroyo government.

“Ako walang kamag-anak na kasama ng Pangulo. Si Noynoy yata anim o lima? Eh bakit ako ang dapat magpaliwanag, eh sila ang nag-imbento ng Villaroyo, sila rin ay kailangan magpaliwanag (I don’t have relatives who are with the President. I think Noynoy have five or six? Then, why should I explain when they are the ones who invented ‘Villaroyo.’ They should also explain,’ he said in a radio interview Tuesday night.

Villar also noted that Arroyo’s former Cabinet members are, in fact, now allied with Aquino and helping his campaign.

“Kung sinasabi natin na ang Pangulo ay corrupt, ibig mong sabihin naging corrupt lang ang pangulo pag alis nila? Kung sinasabi mong corrupt ang pangulo baka noon pa yun eh di kasama din sila (If we say the President is corrupt, does that mean that the President became corrupt only after they left her? Maybe the President was already corrupt when they were still together),” he pointed out.

“The very same people that brought us where we are now…eh yan din ang kasama niya (Noynoy) (are the same people who are with Noynoy now),’ Villar added.

He could not understand why Aquino has not been accused of being an administration bet when some of Arroyo’s allies, like Quezon City Representative Feliciano Belmonte and former Senator Ralph Recto join Aquino’s Liberal Party.

And when they joined Aquino’s camp, they called them “principled” people but when they joined him in the Nacionalista Party, they were viewed as an indication of alliance between him and the President, Villar lamented.

The senator confirmed that construction magnate Reghis Romero was helping his campaign but immediately denied any business dealing with him.

“Si Reghis Romero ay kaibigan ko naman. Inaamin ko naman tumutulong sa akin yan, meron silang group na MOVE, pero wala kaming business deals (Reghis Romero is my friend. I admit that he’s helping me, they have a group called MOVE but we don’t have business deals),” Villar said.

We Should ALL Be Concerned Citizens

A Concerned Citizen Writes to Harvey Keh of Ateneo

Dear Harvey:

In the interest of our common humanity and sense of decency, I just want to share with you some thoughts about Noynoy Aquino and his rabid propagandists disguised as newspaper columnists.

First, this passage from the column yesterday by your fellow Philippine Daily Inquirer columnist Ms. Belinda Cunanan-Olivares entitled "Citizens' candidate":

"Frankly my stomach retches over the way the Aquino camp has gone into an extensive investigation of the details of this episode in utter disregard of compassion and decency. The elder Villar lady must have suffered immensely from the death of that young boy. Must that rival camp now rake up all the sordid details? The aim of the Noynoy camp in playing it up obviously is to prove that Villar was lying and inventing certain circumstances about his early life of poverty that, as his ads now say, enable him to connect to the greater masses who are poor. But surely there must be many other issues far more relevant to the life of the nation that ought to be debated than the circumstances around the illness and death of a young boy that his 87-year-old mother doubtless still mourns.

"What has happened to decency in our midst? The Aquino camp's ghoulish treatment of the young boy's death is just an example of the pettiness and cattiness that the Noynoy campaign has often displayed."

Second, this passage from the column yesterday by Philippine Star columnist Domini Torrevillas- Suarez entitled "Was Manny Villar poor?":

"It's funny, and sad, and very frustrating, to hear and read and witness the bashing of candidates in this campaign. Bashers trump up charges (remember how Manny was being trumpeted as owning a multi-million dollar worth mansion in Utah?), and call rival camps immoral. Says Manny: 'You guys are so different from people like me and the rest of the MBV supporters, because we cannot be as good, as holy, as virtuous as you hypocrites are.'"

And now, I would like to share with you my own feelings about this revolting state of affairs in our public discourse:

I share with Belinda's and Domini's utter revulsion over the ghoulishness of the Noynoy Aquino camp, but I must add that they overlooked the fact that this ghoulishness is surpassed a thousand times over by Inquirer columnists Solita Monsod and Conrad Dequiros as well as Philippine Star's William Esposo—all rabid propagandists of the Noynoy Aquino campaign disguised as newspaper columnists. On the basis of anonymous and unauthenticated documents supplied to them by the Noynoy Aquino camp itself, they viciously ran the demolition job against Manny Villar in practically the same words and with almost the same conclusions.

Now that their despicable act has began to backfire on them, they are now disowning in chorus their respective demolition jobs and their own reckless conclusions in their respective columns. The clueless Noynoy Aquino also denies on TV that he had any hand in the demolition job but has the gall to say that he agrees with its conclusions. Even Franklin Drilon of the Liberal Party has become a denial king, washing his hands off the affair like a Pilate on TV!

Noynoy Aquino, Franklin Drilon, Solita Monsod, Conrad Dequiros and William Esposo have overstepped the bounds of civilized behavior, and they have been prostituted two respectable newspapers by making them propaganda sheets in their overpowering desire to pave the way for themselves to Malacañang by hook or by crook. All five of them should be repudiated, condemned, and boycotted by all decent, self-respecting Filipinos! And Harvey, if you are truly sincere in your personal campaign for morally upright youth leaders and good governance, you should likewise repudiate and condemn such unbridled and unscrupulous acts by your political comrades-in- arms!

There are so many rumors running around about Manny Villar being the 'secret' candidate of Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. And it is quite obvious that it is the Yellow Camp that is spreading these LIES.

Try to connect the dots...

Aquino’s relatives who are close to President Arroyo include his aunts:
-former Sen. Tessie Aquino-Oreta, who is head of the Early Childhood Care and Development Council under the Office of the President

-former Gov. Margarita Cojuangco, president of the Public Safety College under the Department of the Interior and Local Government

-Lupita Aquino-Kashiwahara, President Arroyo’s image consultant.

Paul Aquino, who is now the chief political officer in Aquino III’s campaign, is the chief executive officer of Energy Development Corp. under the state firm Philippine National Oil Co. (The present Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Eleazar Quinto is married to Kashiwahara’s daughter)

It is quite easy to see that the Yellow Camp fabricated this lie that GMA is in alliance with Villar to divert attention that it really is NOYNOY that has close ties with GMA. For their part, it was a smart tactical move to put the rumor on the enemy first. But then that strategy is useless now that the TRUTH is out there, the Aquinos are the ones in cahoots with the current administration, not Manny Villar.

Also if you can remember, Noynoy Aquino favored the non-release and hearing of the 'Hello Garci' case. What now is his defense to that???

unHOLY WEEK

The Yellow Camp is doing it with no holds barred.

Were you able to catch the three-part airing of A Dangerous Life, a movie about Ninoy and the People Power revolution? I mean, where else would they show it but ABias-CBN, Noynoy's medium of brainwashing the Filipinos. By the way, this reminded me of how Jim Carrey's portrayal of the Riddler in Batman Forever, when he used that device placed on people's TVs to suck the brains out of the viewers and forwarded into Riddler's brain (Riddler=Noynoy, Brain-Sucking Device=ABS-CBN, Sucked Brains=Votes).

This is another one of the Yellow Army's tactics to get enough popularity votes as they can. Come on, on HOLY WEEK they're going to show something about Ninoy Aquino? Exactly what is its relevance to Lenten Season? NONE. The Yellow Network is merely doing political promotion work for their candidate, Noynoy.

Clearly, they will stop at nothing to truly brain-wash the entire Philippines.

It's really sad to see and hear how many people believe the Liberal Party's cause. Like they know that a Noynoy presidency would amount to a better future. Exactly what does his platform stand for anyway? Good versus evil?? This is not a religious war, it is a political one where a leader must rely on his intellect, awareness of people's needs, extensive knowledge of current affairs, people skills and management, to site a few. Where in the world can we find this book of truths???

I took time out during the holidays to read veteran journalist Cecil Arillo’s book, Greed and Betrayal, a sequel to Breakaway, his book about the 1986 People Power Revolution. The book talks about how the Reform the Armed Forces Movement or RAM succeeded in mounting a mutiny against then President Ferdinand Marcos, and how the late President Cory Aquino benefited from it.

Arillo’s sequel is about the six years of the Cory Aquino administration. It details the sins of a vindictive regime, including well-documented instances of greed and betrayal of those who catapulted Cory to power in 1986.

The Hacienda Luisita and the Mendiola massacre were also forms of betraying the trust of the tenants and farmers.

More importantly, Arillo’s book also tells us how the so-called “Kamaganak Inc.” tried to surpass the Marcos plunder in scams and anomalies. The cannibalization of so many Cory administration-sequestered corporations by the Presidential Commission on Good Government’s fiscal agents also come to fore.

I suggest the camps of Nacionalista Party standard-bearer Senator Manuel Villar, former President Joseph Estrada, administration candidate former Defense chief Gilbert Teodoro, Senator Richard Gordon and even Jesus Is Lord Movement top honcho Eddie Villanueva get hold of Arillo’s book. It shows that the legacy Mr. Clean is riding on is one of greed and betrayal.

Arillo’s book is well-researched but I still have a few stories of my own that I’d like to add.

Once, an Aquino Cabinet member came out with a report that a Cory kin, together with a Kapampangan Customs broker and a spouse of a former senator, were involved in smuggling activities, specifically containers full of Mercedes Benz cars. Oldtimers at Customs are aware of this.

When this Cabinet member handed the report to Cory, she reportedly just browsed over it and then put it aside. The same Cabinet man was so disgusted that he resigned, but Cory prevailed upon him to accept another Cabinet portfolio.

There was also the takeover of some 37, I repeat 37 corporations, suspected to be that of Kokoy Romualdez, brother-in-law of the late dictator, by the in-laws of Cory.

I know this because one of the corporations taken over was Erestores Inc., a structural steel company. It was founded by the late Marcos’ Minister of Transportation Totoy Dans, who was close to Imeldific.

For the record, I was one of the incorporators of the company. I was founding director. That’s why I knew it all.

There was also the takeover of a motor and vehicle corporation with a license to import British Range Rovers and Land Rovers. The in-laws of Cory used this license to import Simba armored cars for the Armed Forces despite recommendations that they were inferior to US-made armored vehicles.

I recall that when I started to expose this anomaly, I was approached by the PR man of Cory’s in-laws. I was invited to go to London, all expenses paid for, to visit the Simba plant. I refused.

And then there was this sweetheart deal between Cory and Shell that exempted Shell from income tax payments in the multi-billion Malampaya project off Palawan. This still holds true today and the amount involved is P70 billion, according to records.

Cory was said to be very close to the then-Shell president who showered her with attention and flowers daily.

A legacy, indeed, of greed and betrayal. And Mr. Clean thinks this legacy will be his ticket to Malacañang?

A good friend emailed me this article of Emil Jurado and I immediately tried to look for the book he was referring to, Greed & Betrayal. Surprisingly though, it was really difficult to track down this book. National bookstore says that it is now only available on SM north edsa and Rockwell branches... I wonder why this book seems to be supressed from mass production and promotion, oh, let me guess, because it is about the anomalies and controversial dealings during the Aquino administration.

How convenient is it that the book that tells the truth about an important part of the Philippines' history is hard to find during this election season with an Aquino running for presidency? hmm... something seems fishy here, don't you think?

While the Liberal Party keeps on going and going with their hate campaign against other candidates, they are covering up their tracks by supressing truths that would be detrimental to their campaign.. tsk tsk. dirty tactics by the Yellow, what's new?

Last Sunday while reading the newspaper, I saw this article written by non other than one of Noynoy's black propaganda minions, the so-called 'chair wrecker' (which is a douche bag title, as most people also think) William Esposo.

He talked smack about Manny Villar not being authentic in being poor growing up and tried to affirm it with bogus 'evidences.' Wow, another smear campaign has occurred and it is not surprising anymore given that these dirty tactics are what Noynoy and Liberal Camp are really made of.


Now I know why he is called the 'Chair Wrecker'. Chairs cannot hold more than 300 pounds, go figure.

Tell me then, what are the goals/platforms/advocacies that the Yellow group are proclaiming? NOTHING. Their statements regarding state affairs are very limited, so they let the CORY MAGIC overshadow the whole thing. Is there more to them than just 'hindi ako magnanakaw' and 'ituloy ang laban'??? come on now...

Esposo (The Philippine Star) Updated March 28, 2010 12:00 AM “Nakaranas na ba kayong … mamatayan ng kapatid dahil wala kang pera pangpagamot” (Have you experienced losing a brother because you did not have the money to provide him proper medical care)? — Manny Villar asked in his “PANATA(Advocacy)” TV commercial. Villar was referring to his younger brother Danny who passed away on October 1962. In the same commercial, Villar’s 1962 photo with his younger brother was shown. This portrayal of being poor once upon a time is a fantasy which comes in a series of similar attempts by Villar to create empathy with the nearly 90% of voters who belong to the socio-economic classes D and E. However, this particular attempt to use his late brother Danny to further his political ambition showed that Villar is as capable of lying just like Madame Gloria Macapagal Arroyo (GMA). Two public documents — the death certificate of Danny B. Villar and the Transfer Certificate of Title (TCT number: 135396/3194) of the 560 square meter property in the upper class San Rafael Village of Navotas where the Villars had lived when Danny died — shattered this ONCE POOR fantasy that Villar has been peddling. What the San Rafael Village TCT presents: 1. Before 1962, the Villars bought 560 square meters (SQM) of high valued real estate on Bernardo Street in San Rafael Village where the more affluent folks in the Tondo-Navotas area resided.

In 1962, this was a lot in a village of 5 to 10 houses, in a place constantly flooded. Definitely NOT high-end. And Villar’s father bought it through a P16,000 loan from GSIS. This is the house they moved into from Moriones. And this place is STILL in Tondo. Monsod and Esposo claim this was a gated community to make it look like the Villars were never once poor.

2. The DEATH CERTIFICATE of the deceased Danny B. Villar established that they were already residing there in 1962.

What is true is that all the Villar children (maybe except for the youngest, Jojo) were born and raised in Moriones UNTIL THEY MOVED TO THIS PLACE IN BALUT, TONDO. It was a modest single storey house which over time was improved. With a set of hardworking and enterprising parents, the family has improved their lot. Still not RICH by others’ standards, but they succeeded in improving their lives. Surely, that is something admirable. The trouble is Villar bashers will take half-truths and distort them to make it appear that Villar was lying when he claimed to have been once poor.

3. Based on 2009 prices, the P16,000 GSIS (Government Service Insurance System) mortgage mentioned in the TCT — not necessarily the total cost of the two 280 SQM lots — is now the equivalent of P1,140,000.00. Poor people today cannot even borrow P200,000. Those who are familiar with the subdivision say that the cost per SQM in San Rafael Village today would be around P10,000 per SQM or an equivalent of around P5,600,000 for the entire property.

Like Manny, his father dreamed to improve their fortunes. As a government employee, he had access to cheap credit such as GSIS loans. The P16,000 loan was meant for both the lot and the house construction/ improvement. At the time it was bought, there was no telling the area will improve and real estate prices will rise to current levels. Just to draw parallels, anyone who can borrow back then could have bought properties along Osmena St (South Super Highway) before the highway was constructed and be pleasantly surprised now that their investments paid off.

4. Jun Borres, the present owner who is using the 560 SQM property as offices of his firm, Jumbo Fishing, stated that when they bought it in 1987 – it had a one and a half floor house. The ground floor was made of concrete while the upstairs was made of wood. This was typical upper middle class and upper class dwelling in the 1960s.

What is wrong with a once poor vendor of shrimps and fish to improve their fortunes and move from poor to middle class over time? Isn’t this the price and prize of sipag and tyaga? Do people expect the poor to remain poor forever? Is it a mortal sin and immoral that the Villars did not remain poor? Remember that the property was bought in 1962, and this “witness” Jun Borres who claims this is a typical upper middle class dwelling bought the property in 1987. A difference of 25 years!!!!

Implications of the San Rafael Village ownership 1. Together with established Manny Villar bio information, they could not have been dirt poor to be able to move to San Rafael Village before 1962. His mother was a seafood (shrimp, crab and fish) dealer in Divisoria Market, not a fish vendor as what Villar tries to project. A seafood dealer supplies the vendors. For a family of 11, they ate canned corned beef — which Manny Villar admitted on his earlier TV ad. His father was a government official, said to be a Budget Officer of the then DANR (Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources) under which was the Fisheries Bureau. Manny Villar studied in private schools — the Holy Child Catholic School for elementary and Mapua Institute of Technology for High School. Poor folks send their kids to public schools.

Again, how these yellow birds distort the truth! Nanay Curing started as a seafood vendor, eventually graduating to a seafood dealer. Canned corned beef is not daily fare. Manny mentioned it with fond memories because the Villar children remember with fondness the way their corned beef was cooked to satify a big family. Also, the Holy Child Catholic School was situated right beside the Isabelo de los Reyes Elementary School where Manny Villar first enrolled. The “private school” was a parochial school then subsidized by the parish where tuition was definitely not of the standards of private schools today. Villar’s parents valued education as a means out of poverty, typical of parents even today. And I need not repeat that the family was once poor and managed to improve their lot through sipag at tyaga to be what these bashers call “middle class”.

2. Villar’s parents must have had a sizeable combined income to be able to buy the San Rafael Village property. The 560 SQM size demonstrates their financial capacity. If they could, poor people buy lots sized less than 100 SQMs. Villar’s father must also be making a sizeable income from the government to be able to borrow P16,000 from the GSIS. In 1962, senior executives in big corporations made monthly salaries of about P2,000.

Villar’s father is a lowly government employee who THROUGH THE YEARS got his promotions. Ano ang masama duon? He had access to GSIS credit, and he borrowed money to buy his family a lot they can call their own. Ayaw ba marinig yan ng mga mayayaman?

What Danny B. Villar’s DEATH CERTIFICATE reveals: 1. It is NOT TRUE that Danny died because they were poor and could not afford proper health care. The stated residence in Danny’s death certificate was the San Rafael Village property.

If you are rich, and your kin is suffering from a dreaded disease, you will most certainly make sure he gets the best medical care. Such is not the case with Danny who was brought for treatment from clinic to clinic until he grew worse in condition and the family brought him to FEU hospital.

2. The BIG LIE is further proved by the fact that Danny stayed 13 days at the FEU (Far Eastern University) Hospital where he expired at age 3 years and 8 months. If they were really poor, the PGH (Philippine General Hospital) would have been the affordable hospital to bring Danny. He was definitely given proper health care. FEU Hospital was one of the top hospitals in 1962, before the establishment of the Makati Medical Center and St. Luke’s Hospital.

Oh Yes, if y ou have someone nearly dying…….make sure you choose the hospital you bring him to. Take the time to choose and mind which hospital you can afford. Tell that to the poor. PGH is a choice. But Ms. Monsod and Mr. Esposo should remember that FEU hospital, even at that time, had a charity ward! Danny was admitted as a charity patient in FEU hospital, but that fact was conveniently omitted in Monsod and Esposo’s columns. This is the height of nitpicking. For these guys to dwell on this topic, distort the truth make us sick!

3. Danny died from CARDIAC and RESPIRATORY FAILURE resulting from COMPLICATIONS OF LEUKEMIA. In 1962, there was no bone marrow transplantation and chemotherapy yet and everyone whether rich or poor died from contracting leukemia.

At this point, let me just say that the family of Manny Villar find it very very sad that they have to explain themselves here. Leukemia afflicts both rich and poor, but the rich get proper medical care, unlike poor Danny who had absolutely no chance and died at a very young age. Cancer, leukemia, etc. —- these illnesses may be hopeless cases. But it is always disheartening not to be able to afford medical care to a poor child like Danny. This is a dark moment in the Villar family’s life. And these bashers want to make light of it?

4. Upon Danny’s death, his remains were turned over to LA FUNERARIA PAZ — then, until now, considered one of the top two mortuaries (Funeraria Nacional, the other). This further disproved Manny Villar’s claim that Danny died because they did not have the money to take care of him.

Back then, Funeraria Paz is just one funeral parlor. This does not prove anything.

When Iggy Arroyo was seen as having taken the Jose Pidal rap for his elder brother Mike, many folks felt that it was rather low of Mike Arroyo to place his younger brother at risk. Our culture expects the older brother to protect the younger brother. In that regard, we can consider Manny Villar as having done worse than Mike Arroyo. At least, Iggy Arroyo was alive and kicking and he could have opted to stay out of the Jose Pidal controversy. But in the case of Manny and Danny Villar, Danny was used to promote a myth when Danny was in no position to agree to his elder brother Manny’s portrayal of his death.

Here is where these bashers try to draw parallels between Villar and the present occupants of Malacanang. Bravo, guys. You want to paint Manny Villar as worse than Mike Arroyo. You want people to remember Manny Villar as “like the hated Arroyo”. Here is where you want to take everyone for a ride by bashing Villar as no different from the hated First Family, right? Your political agenda is showing, fellas. Low. Sick. You guys are hopeless.

With the propagation of this ONCE POOR fantasy, don’t you think that Manny Villar also desecrated the memory and honor of his parents who strove to be able to provide their children quality education and an upper class domicile? If Manny Villar can lie and use his dead younger brother like this, what makes you think that he will really improve and not worsen your life?
